AN AGREEMENT ON THE CREATION OF A NEW MASTER'S PROGRAM WAS SIGNED BETWEEN SSU AND BP
On May 3, a large-scale meeting was held between SSU and the BP company, and it was announced that an agreement was signed on the creation of the "Chemical Engineering" master's program with a new content. The project was developed according to the needs of the labor market, industrial potential and service areas of Sumgait city. Chemical processes, production processes and environmental sustainability are reflected in the new curriculum adapted to the requirements of the industry.
Rector of the university, associate professor Rufat Azizov, greeted the guests and participants. He gave detailed information about the higher education institution, university-industry, and spoke about the importance of the new master's program.
Bakhtiyar Aslanbeyli, BP's vice-president for the Caspian region, said in his speech: "We believe that this project is the next successful initiative in the direction of adapting specialist training to business and industrial needs. The specialty of chemical engineering is needed more in Sumgait than in other cities of the country. As one of the major industrial centers of Azerbaijan, where numerous modern industrial and technological enterprises are located, there is a great demand for highly qualified chemical engineers in Sumgait. On the other hand, the project is implemented at a time when the importance of the chemical industry for the country's economy as a whole is increasing. An important part of the chemical potential of the country is located in Sumgait. In this regard, we hope that the graduates of the program will acquire modern technological knowledge, flexible abilities, innovative skills, and most importantly, they will join with great enthusiasm and energy the efforts to implement the industrial trends and economic development plans of their hometown and the country."
At the meeting, chairman of the Board of Education Development Fund Elnur Nasibov, Advisor to the Minister of Science and Education Nijat Mammadli, deputy director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education Nijat Asadli gave information about the projects and programs implemented in the formation and development of human capital, the importance of university-industry cooperation.
Initially, 15 students will be admitted to the new master's program in 2 specializations - chemistry and technology of basic organic synthesis and chemical technology of polymers. In the following years, the program will cover 4 additional fields, and it is planned to increase the number of admissions to 95 people in the next 5 years.
Within the framework of the project, it is planned to carry out a number of activities, so that up to 15 teachers of the university will be trained in order to improve their knowledge and subject skills based on the new curriculum and the new teaching content in general; a group of teachers will be sent to foreign universities to practice new content and learn the latest innovations in their subjects; leading international trainers and experts will be invited to share experience, knowledge and skills; 5 experienced teachers from other local universities will be invited to expand teaching methods and pedagogical approaches; students participating in the program will be involved in projects implemented by industrial enterprises during a significant part of the study period, thus students will have the opportunity to prepare their scientific work based on practical knowledge obtained from industry.
During the project, chemical engineering laboratories, chemical laboratories and classrooms will be equipped with modern technology and equipment, which will enable the university to offer new service opportunities to industrial enterprises.
It should be noted that the cost of this project with a duration of 13 months is more than 339,000 manats.
