On July 11, Sumgait State University held an extended meeting of the Scientific Council on the results of the 2023-2024 academic year and the tasks ahead in the new academic year.
The rector of the university, associate professor Rufat Azizov, greeted the members of the council and before proceeding to the discussion of the issues on the agenda, awarded a group of employees - associate professor Sabir Khalilov, senior lecturer Nofal Ahmadov, Faig Shirinov and Shahmar Abdullayev with a letter of thanks for their many years of effective work.
Then the rector congratulated all the employees of the university on the decision of SSU in the QS - European Universities Ranking and noted that: Achieving a successful result in such a short period of time is the result of hard work and dedication. Out of 6000 European universities, 684 universities were ranked in the QS-Rating. Our university is ranked 483 among European universities. It is ranked 31st in Western Asia and 5th among Azerbaijani universities. SSU is the first regional university from our country included in the QS Ratings. In general, 9 universities from Azerbaijan entered the QS Rating.
Rector thanked to the heads of the departments: vice-rector for International relations associate professor Konul Abasli for conducting work related to the International Rating, Habiba Nazirova, head of the Project Management department for accurately checking and preparing reports, as well as Career and graduation employment center for their efficient activities in establishing close relations between SSU and employers Nasiba Amirbeyova, Faig Shirinov, the director of the Teaching Methodological Center, associate professor Osman Hajiyev, associate professor Sabir Khalilov, the head of the department of Master's, doctoral studies and science, associate professor Samir Orujov, the vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations, associate professor Elmar Khalilov and his team. Then the agenda issues were discussed.
Vice-rector for International relations Konul Abasli said that the achievement of this success is based on the perseverance, hard work and efficient activity of the faculty and staff. Thanks to them, in a short time, our university gained reputation in the academic environment, society and among employers.
Speaking about the results of the examination session for bachelor's and master's degrees and the defense of master's theses of the spring semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, associate professor Elshad Abdullayev, vice-rector for Science and innovations, said that the exams were held at SSU on the examination session of the spring semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. It was conducted in accordance with the relevant order. During the examination session, the Examination Headquarters and the Appeals Commission functioned.
Associate professor Samir Orujov, head of the Master's, Doctorate and Science department, informed about the requirements for the transfer of SSU employees to the positions of assoc.prof. and the mechanism of awarding for scientific articles. He said that the requirements for the transfer to the position of associate professor and the awarding for the scientific article are aimed at increasing the efficiency and stimulation of the work of the teaching staff of SSU, as well as increasing the ranking of the university.
Then the requirements for the transfer of SSU employees to the positions of docents and the "reward mechanism for scientific articles" were approved.
Associate professor Elmar Khalilov, vice-rector for Social affairs and public relations, spoke about the observance of university disciplinary rules. He noted that all the employees of SSU are entrusted with the constant attention and observance of internal disciplinary rules and are constantly monitored by faculty deans, heads of departments and other heads of structures.
In the discussion of various issues, the Scientific secretary professor Mukhtar Samadov talked about the "formation and mechanism of action of equivalence (adaptation of subjects) commissions for faculties in connection with the recognition of previous education and credits of students who are transferred, reinstated, receiving second higher education, participating in exchange of experience at SSU".
In the 2024-2025 academic year, the "Rules for providing an additional 200 AZN scholarship by the university to students admitted to SSU with a score of 500 or higher" were approved. It was also informed about the temporary suspension of students' education (academic leave) due to their family situation.
Changes in the structure of the Personnel department, as well as the abolition of the department of Geography and its teaching methodology, were reported. Later, it was decided to change the name of the Personnel department to the Center of Human Capital Management, and to change the name of the department of History and its teaching methodology to the department of History, geography and methodology.
It was noted that in order to grant the right to publish, the Scientific Council received a total of 9 educational materials, including 1 teaching material, 1 methodical material and 7 subject programs.
After discussions, publication of teaching materials was allowed, and the extended meeting of the Scientific Council concluded its work.
