The first meeting of the Scientific Council in the 2024/2025 academic year was held at Sumgayit State University on September 6. Rector of the university, associate professor Rufat Azizov, opened the meeting and greeted the members of the Council. He congratulated every teacher and employee on the occasion of the new academic year, then gave information about the successes of SSU and noted that this year, unlike last year, 20 students with scores above 500 and 205 students with scores above 400 were admitted to our university and it is a very high indicator in comparison with the last year. Students with high scores have already started choosing SSU. Each of us should further mobilize our strength in this direction. Then the rector drew attention to the issues on the agenda. Associate Professor Osman Hajiyev, Director of the Teaching Methodological Center, informed about the state of preparation for the 2024/2025 academic year and Methodical tools for teaching organization and evaluation. He noted that preparations for the 2024-2025 academic year at Sumgayit State University began in July. From 16.07.2024 to 22.07.2024, intensive meetings of the rector with faculty and department staff and in accordance with the tasks given here, first of all, the process of preparing and updating the Form 1 - Teaching plans, which is the basis of the educational process, was started. This covered both undergraduate and graduate levels. As a result of all these changes, optimization and content innovation have been achieved, teaching of more relevant, modern subjects is planned. This will also lead to the development of university-industry, university-labour market and business world cooperation. Changes in the educational plans of pedagogically oriented specialties will ensure that students show more successful results in the future within the framework of TRE. As part of preparation for the new academic year, the recruitment process of new employees was carried out taking into account the need for teaching loads. In accordance with the rules of the recruitment process, professors and teaching staff of faculties and departments, as well as experts from the industry and business world, were invited to cooperate on the University's official internet portal and social media accounts. Associate Professor Elshad Abdullayev, Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations, spoke about some changes in the structure of SSU. He stated that the departments of the literature of Azerbaijan and foreign countries and the Azerbaijani language and its teaching methodology of the Faculty of Philology were abolished and the Department of Linguistics and Literature was established on their basis, the Departments of Mathematical analysis and theory of functions and Differential equations and optimization of the Faculty of Mathematics were abolished, and on their basis the Department of Mathematics and it is proposed to create a department of analysis and differential equation. The Department of Informatics was abolished, it was considered appropriate to transfer the teaching load to the Department of Mathematics and its Teaching Methodology and to change the name of the Department to the Department of Teaching Technology of Mathematics and Informatics. The Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Management was abolished, the teaching load was given to the Department of Finance and Accounting and the name of the department was changed to the Department of Accounting and Economics, as well as the Department of World Economy and Marketing was abolished, the teaching load was transferred to the Department of Business Organization and Management and the name of the department was changed and it was proposed to call it business management.
Konul Abasli, vice-rector for international relations, spoke about merging the project management department with the department of international relations and foreign students, amending the regulations of the quality assurance and strategy department. She pointed out that the said departments were merged and the International cooperation and strategic projects department was created in their base. Associate Professor Konul Abasli on updating the Annual Action Plan of SSU in accordance with the academic year, drawing up the Annual Action Plans of the structural units of the University in accordance with the Action Plan of SSU and the established new form, on the implementation of the recommendations and instructions given in the final report of the Accreditation Commission as a result of the last accreditation process and she informed about the approval of the report.
Then relevant decisions were made regarding the mentioned issues. Gulnar Jafarova, Head of the Quality Assurance and Strategy Department, spoke about the results of the surveys conducted by the Quality Assurance and Strategy Department. She noted that conducting surveys, in addition to revealing certain deficiencies, also forms students' habits of free thinking. According to the results of the survey, faculty deans, heads of departments and heads of appropriate structures were assigned to analyze and eliminate the identified deficiencies. Then, Vice-Rector for Social Affairs and Public Relations Associate Professor Elmar Khalilov informed about the establishment of the "Center of Excellence" at SSU and stated that increasing students' academic knowledge and skills is one of the strategic goals of our university. To realize this goal, it is planned to establish a Center of Excellence. In addition to promoting the academic and personal development of students studying at Sumgayit State University, the Center of Excellence will serve to effectively organize their free time, increase the activity of student clubs and associations, and expand international relations. This initiative will increase the quality of education in our university, expand participation in student exchange programs and support the formation of students as successful professionals in the future.
Approval of study plans, study plans of SABAH groups, approval of updated study plans, regulations on faculties, departments and other structures, approval of the Regulations of Master's, Doctorate and Science Departments, Students studying on a paid basis, approval of the Individual Contract sample and payment rules, employment at SSU Scientific secretary Professor Mukhtar Samadov gave detailed information about the approval of the admission rules and the approval of the Work Plan of the Scientific Council of SSU for the academic year 2024/2025. At the meeting, the Work Plan, Study plans, Regulations and other necessary documents of the Scientific Council of SSU for the academic year 2024/2025 were approved by the decision of the Scientific Council.
