Elkhan Huseynov: The first political appraisal to Khojaly genocide was given by our national leader Heydar Aliyev.
On February 25 a memorial ceremony of the 24th anniversary of Khojaly genocide was held in Sumgait State University. First, the participants of the event overlooked the exhibition reflecting the horrors of Khojaly genocide organized by Science Library in the foyerof the University.
A minute silence was held to commemorate the victimsof Khojaly genocide and citizens of our Motherland died by hero"s death for the sake of Azerbaijam entirety.
The ceremony was opened by head of the University Pr.Elkhan Huseynov with his entry words. he noted that national liberty and eternal sovereignty history is always written with blood by any powerful nation. Azerbaijan nation protesting to the 200 years enslavement of Soviet empire, to the grief of Tabriz, Darband, Borchaly, Iravan, Zangazur stood up for the struggle again in the end of the XX century. Although our nation endured the violence of 20 January, sorrow of Kharabakh, Shusha and Khojaly massacre they have never waived their eternal independence.
Awaken since the pain of Savalan, Arkh, Alinja, Akhridakh our brave heroes came face to face with armenian pettifogers and their defenders in Khojaly the cradle of Kur-Araz culture on February 26, 1992. Always grudging Azerbaijan armenian provocators supported by bistandard countries didn"t hesitate to raze the city to the ground and to shed the blood of innocent people. They commited their genocide policy comparable to other massacres in the world. Armenian executioners tortured Azerbaijan nation and destroyed the city. Although the city was razed to the ground, the people suffered from inconceivable humiliation facts Soviet troops commited their intercession policy with violence. the history of the city be ravaged by armenian aggressors was written with the blood of residents. Khojaly is still waiting for the justice from the bistandard world community for spirits of the gallants died in this tragedy with the support of "Justice for Khojaly" international campaign held by Leyla Aliyeva the vice-president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation. European Union and international courts dealing with human rights should make fair decision and give conscientious order for Khojaly genocidemore dreadful than Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Khatin. the head of the university also mentioned that armenian military forces commited massacre act in the town of Khojaly with the population of 7 thousand people on February 26, 1992. 613 people were killed, 1000 peaceful people of different age became invalid during Khojaly genocide. 106 women, 63 children, 70 old men were killed. 8 family were completely annihilated, 130 children lost one parent, while 25 both of them. 1275 peace residents were taken hostages, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. Azerbaijan nation has endured ethnic cleansing and genocide policy by armenian nationalist-chauvinists for 200 years. Yet in 1994 with the initiative of our National Leader Milli Majlis accepted decision about " The day of Khojaly genocide", and 26 February was announced as a day of " Khojaly genocide and national funeral". Nowadays the head of our republic Mr. President Ilham Aliyev and vice-president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva deliver realities of Khojaly genocide and crimes commited against Azerbaijan nation by armenian nationalists as a whole to the world countries and do purposeful operations in this course.
Renaisance" students" theatre and "Sema" dancing group of the university demonstrated literary-poetic composition devoted to the 24th anniversary of Khojaly tragedy in the ceremony accompanied with deep grief. The 2nd course student of History-geography faculty Ismayil Fakhtiyev bloodied with his brush the symbol of Khojaly tragedy the character of "Mother"s groan".
The rector noted that this performance is propagandaof Khojaly genocide in the wide scale. The head of the university also emphasized that shedded blood, dropped tears in Khojaly will not remain on the ground and occupied territory Kharabakh will be retrieved soon.
