A scientific seminar dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held
On February 28, a scientific seminar dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at Sumgayit State University, organized by the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples, within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” of the Azerbaijan Historical Society. First, the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who gave their lives for the defense of our homeland was commemorated. The seminar began with the playing of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Professor Shirkhan Salimov, Head of the Department of History of Azerbaijan and Eastern European Peoples of the University, made a speech and emphasized the role of the Constitution in strengthening the independence and statehood of Azerbaijan. He noted the return of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev to power in 1993, the socio-political stability achieved under the leadership of the Great Leader, and the creation of a solid foundation for modern state building. Professor Shirkhan Salimov noted that the first Azerbaijani Constitution adopted in 1995 marked the beginning of legislative and institutional reforms in our country. He also emphasized that the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan were fully restored as a result of the historic victory in the Patriotic War in 2020 and the “anti-terrorist operations” carried out in 2023. He noted that, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, adopted on September 19, 2024, September 20 was declared the Day of State Sovereignty in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then, Doctor of Philosophy in History Samir Maharramov made speeches on the topics of “Heydar Aliyev and the Constitution of Azerbaijan: strategic reforms shaping the legal state”, Senior Lecturer Parviz Jafarov on “Socio-political situation on the eve of the adoption of the Constitution of Azerbaijan”, students of the faculty Rahil Jafarov on “Educational provision of youth in the Constitution of Azerbaijan”, Aslan Askerov on “Participation of youth in state building: social and political activity”. During the presentations, Dean of the Faculty of History and Geography, Professor Adil Bakhshaliyev noted the important role played by the Great Leader in the formation of a modern legal state and the preparation of the Constitution. At the end of the seminar, extensive discussions were held on the topic.
