On September 28, Israel and American biochemist and biophysicist professor and Nobel Prize winner Arie and his wife Tami Varshel visited Sumgait State University. The rector of the university, Professor Elkhan Huseynov, welcomed the guests and said that he was pleased to see them at the university and spoke about the foundation and activity directions of the university. Then he informed the guests about the success of university in international projects and its bilateral co-operation with foreign universities. He said that the scientific relations are expanding day by day at the moment, a lot of teachers and students have successful steps towards mobility. Elkhan Huseynov also told about the joining of Sumgait State University "Mevlana Exchange Program" and successful participation in the Tempus projects .
Then Nobel Prize laureate Arie Varshel met with professors, teaching staff and students.. Prof. Elkhan Huseynov gave detailed information about the guest. He noted that Arie Varshel was born in 1940 in Israel in Sde-Naxumki settlement. In 1962 he entered the University of Haifa . He got master degree and PhD at the Institute of Whiteman in Israel and then had training at Harvard University. Then returned to the University of Whiteman and worked there until 1974. In 1974-1976 he worked at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge University. He has been working at the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Southern California since 1976. Since 1984 he is the professor of the university.
Then Nobel Prize laureate Arie Varshel gave information about the award he had got. He told that he was awarded the prize for creating the modern methods molecular modeling of chemical and biological systems foundation. The professor also talked about his third visit to Azerbaijan and the rapid development of the country . He also informed that he would participate at the Fifth Baku International Humanitarian Forum which would take place in the morning. He said: “Every time when I come to Azerbaijan I see the great success of Azerbaijan science . The future of the country depends on the youth and I’m sure you students will do everything to be awarded the prize as I was.
