It has been passed 27 years since the happenings of January 20th, 1990 which became a honor of personification of Azerbaijani nation. In this respect, our university has held an event by the mutual efforts of Students’ Trade Union Committee, Students’ Youth Organization and Youth Union of New Azerbaijan Party. The participants of the event have stood for 1 minute of silence in order to memorize the martyrs. Making an opening speech the dean, professor of the department of History and Geography Mr. Adil Baxshialiyev notified that our glorious history have seen the tragedies a lot. But, the happenings of 20th January will remain in the history as one of the serious crimes against humanity. The happenings of 20th January have demonstrated to the whole world the steadfast struggle of our nation for the democracy, freedom and sovereignty. It was the beginning of the national movement towards the independence. In the night of 19th January to 20th the soviet army had been caused of a massacre against peaceful people. The first political view about this accident had been given by the great leader Mr. Haydar Aliyev.
The head of Students’ Trade Union Mr. Nemat Ibayev, the lecturer of faculty of Filology Mr. Ali Rzazade, an assc. Professor of department of Azerbaijani History Mr. Elmar Khalilov the master of Philology faculty Mr. Elshad Aliyev have notified in their speech that although this big tragedy, it could not break the will of nation in the way of struggle towards the national freedom. The victims of that night, the suns of Azerbaijan made a brilliant page of the nation’s history. Nowadays, the tragedy of January 20th is the honorable and heroic page of Azerbaijan history. It has been noted as well that the worthy successor of great leader, the president Mr. Ilham Aliyev currently makes its best to strengthen the independence of the country. At present, Azerbaijan has a rapid growth. The power of our army is increasing year by year. It means that, Azerbaijan will get back all its territories soon which are under the occupation.
Hereafter, it was demonstrated the film in connection with the happenings of Bloody January. In the end of the event the participants visited the Alley of Martyrs and memorized them accordingly.
