On April 30, a seminar-lecture was held in Sumgayit State University on “Organization of measures to fight human trafficking” in the framework of fighting measures against human trafficking by public unity “Support the police”. The event was held with the financial support of the Council on State Support to Non-Governmental Organization under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Chairman of Support the police public unity Shamsaddin Aliyev, deputy chairman of the unity Shahrza Aghayev, coworkers of Sumgayit city police department and university teachers and students took part in the event.
Vice-rector for humanitarian issues docent Ramiz Huseynov opening the meeting talked about the actuality of the topic and the aim of such events which is to raise public awareness. He noted that thousands of people, mostly women and children become the victims of human trafficking every year because of various reasons. Emphasizing the importance of saving human life vice-rector called the civil society to be more active in this field.
Shamsaddin Aliyev gave information about the role of society in combat against human trafficking and serious crimes, elimination and prophylaxis of conditions and reasons of such crimes, National Action Plan approved by the President of Azerbaijan Republic related to the struggle against human trafficking, as well as history of trafficking and statistics. He noted that illiteracy and ignorance are factors causing human trafficking crimes. The main purpose of fighting against human trafficking is to prevent people from being slaves, make the society safe, fear and civil, raise the public activity and realize punishment. 
Questions around the topic were answered and booklets were distributed about “Fight against human trafficking”. A film about fight against human trafficking was demonstrated.
