On October 23, Republican scientific conference “Modern problems of biology” was held at Sumgayit State University.

Deputy director of Microbiology Institute of ANAS, associate member of ANAS Panah Muradov, deputy director of Physiology Institute of ANAS named after A.I.Garayev, doctor of sciences on physics-mathematics Ahmad Hajiyev and scholars of several higher education institutions took part in the conference.

Vice-rector on Science and Innovations Professor Ramazan Mammadov commenced the conference with welcome speech, hailed participants and wished success to the conference work.

Vice-rector Ramazan Mammadov spoke about achievements gained in the field of biology in our country and its new growth directions. He notified: “National leader Heydar Aliyev always called attention to advancement of science and education in his administration. Education policy has been one of the main directions of national construction policy both in Soviet government and independent Azerbaijan Republic. The base of modern areas of Azerbaijani biology like biochemistry, molecular biology, biophysics, genetic biotechnology, bioinformatics, and bioenergetics were founded in 70s of last century. Heydar Aliyev constantly cared about protection of nature and greenery as a provider of human health, physical and spiritual purity. Great leader substantiated actuality of main issues of Azerbaijani science and recommended our scientists to engage in more essential strategic problems for the country. These recommendations have been accompanied by his orders for the growth of Azerbaijani science”. Vice-rector noted that Faculty of Chemistry and Biology of our university has a great labor in improvement of biology in our country. Since experienced scholars deliver lectures to students, well-known scientists meet our students and hold discussions with them.

The following people delivered speech in the conference: deputy director of Physiology Institute of ANAS named after A.I.Garayev, doctor of sciences on physics-mathematics Ahmad Hajiyev –“Longevity phenomenon in Azerbaijan: demographic and medical-biological aspects”; deputy director of Microbiology Institute of ANAS, associate member of ANAS Panah Muradov –“Mycobiota of Azerbaijan: modern condition and problems”; head of the Department of Biology and its teaching methods docent Arzu Bakhshaliyev –“the role of microorganisms in utilization of plant wastes”. The speakers emphasized the significance of this kind of conferences in promotion of our scientific achievements.

The conference went on with section meetings: “Human and animal physiology. Plant physiology”, “Biochemistry, Biophysics. Molecular biology. Genetics”, “Zoology. Ecology. Soil science”, “Botany. Microbiology. Mycology”, “Teaching methods of biology”.

The conference will end on October 24. It should be noted that 146 theses were accepted to conference and they were published as conference materials bulk.
