On November 3, a group of students and the lecturers of the Department of Electrotechnics and energetics and the Department of Electromechanics of the Faculty of Physics and electroenergetics of SSU took an excursion under the guidance of department head docent Nadir Hajibalayev to Sumgayit Electric Power Station and 330/220/110 kW Yashma substation for getting acquainted with their equipment.

The director of Sumgayit Electric Power Station Mahir Kheyirbayov sincerely welcomed the delegation of the university, who participated in the excursion and gave information about the station. He notified: “Recently substantial works have been done for the improvement of electroenergetics system in Azerbaijan. Material-technical base of energetics was strengthened; a large number of electric stations with module type were launched. Thus, significant achievements have been gained in provision of the people with electric energy. It is about several years that Azerbaijan has been introducing its energy resources to world markets. There are extra opportunities to export natural resources to world markets in the future. Module type electric stations, huge electric stations were built and used in all regions. Formerly, the specialists were invited to our republic from Russia and other countries to build and install electric power stations, as well as hydroelectric power stations. But now our own specialists- erectors, welders, engineers, and technicians are engaged in construction of electric power stations. I believe that you also will be one of them”.

The head of the station M.Kheyirbayov noted that the station was reconstructed on the basis of Sumgayit Thermal Electric Center № 1by Siemens Company (Germany). There are gas turbines along with steam turbines in the station. Shift manager Mr. Tofik made the students acquainted with thermal equipment. He gave information about work principles and initial parameters of that equipment. The students learned that there are 2 boilers, 2 turbines (gas-stream turbine), dirty water tank with 2000 m³ capacity and clean water tank with 750 m³ capacity, shore station, condensate pumps, gas supply points and dispatcher station.

Afterwards, the chief of 330/220/110 kW Yashma substation Salman Gafarov accepted our delegation. He gave information about the station. He noted that first part of 330/220/110 kW substation began to function in 1971. This substation is a junction-type substation. Second part of the substation began to function in 1977. In 1982, substation was expanded and third transformer joined to work. They made some changes in schemes in next years. Now, total power of the substation is 640 megawatts. 50 MW wind power plant is working parallel with energy system via air lines from Yashma substation to Siyazan substation.

Head of substation Mr. Salman and Mr. Islam responded all the questions of students. They walked through 330/220/110 kW Yashma substation.
